LEGISLATIVE NEWS

Legislative Day — Because of recently initiated security measures enacted in the Capitol Building, our traditional Legislative Days have been modified. Instead of the usual expected 1000+ participants with a chicken dinner being served and buses being provided, plans are to hopefully have approximately 200-250 retired educators visit the Capitol on February 15. Everyone is welcome, but bus transportation and meals are the responsibility of the attendee. If you plan to attend, please heed these instructions. Also, here are the priority bills of current interest to MRTA.

If you are unable to come to Jefferson City in person, you are still urged to contact your legislators by phone or email on February 15. MRTA Capitol Blitz Day is a day set aside to contact your legislators and thank them for their public service and let them know about the issues that are important to you. This is an important event because all politics is local! MRTA is a grassroots organization, each and every one of you are the reason we are successful. Legislators care what their district constituents think; you are the voter and taxpayer. They need to hear from you! Please plan to participate either in person or by contacting your legislator from home. THERE IS STRENGTH IN NUMBERS! The BRTA Legislative Committee has compiled some information you can use as talking points with your legislator.

MRTA Legislative Platform — The Missouri Retired Teachers Association and Public School Personnel, of which we are a local chapter, has released its 2017 Legislative Platform. You may view that here.
