LEGISLATIVE NEWS

MRTA Legislative Day — FEBRUARY 11 IS MRTA LEGISLATIVE DAY AT THE STATE CAPITOL. This is an important opportunity for members to speak to legislators about issues relating to retirement and public schools. There is strength in numbers so please plan to attend. Red is supposed to be the “power” color so please wear red tops if possible. Participants wishing to car pool should meet at the commuter lot on the southeast corner of Highway 63 and Grindstone Parkway/New Haven Road at 8:45. Cars will depart at 9:00. Anyone not wishing to carpool needs to arrive at the capitol by 10 am; events start at 10:30. More information is here.

BRTA Legislative Forum — At the October 15 meeting, our Legislative Committee invited all local members of the Missouri General Assembly to come and answer questions related to issues affecting retired teachers and education in general. In attendance were Rep. Cheri Toalson-Reisch (R-Dist. 44), Rep. Kip Kendrick (D-Dist. 45), and Rep. Chuck Basye (R-Dist. 47). Rep. Martha Stevens (D- Dist. 46) was unable to attend, but agreed to provide answers to the questions in writing after the forum. Rep. Sara Walsh (R-Dist. 50) was unable to attend and declined to answer the questions. Sen. Caleb Rowden (R-Dist. 19) never responded to the invitation and declined to answer written questions. The topics, questions, and responses can be viewed here.

MRTA Legislative Platform — The Missouri Retired Teachers Association and Public School Personnel, of which we are a local chapter, has released its 2020 Legislative Platform. You may view that here.
